Spreading Awareness Part One

Today's gift is spreading awareness.

I titled today's gift part one as this is a two part gift...I know it will be : )

This morning my girls left the house for school decked out in their Girl Power 2 Cure apparel for my daughter's 5k/Walk/Kids Run which is tomorrow!  Shirts and capes...they will be "flying" through school spreading awareness among their peers.

Our school has been wonderful about letting us talk about this upcoming FUNraiser for my daughter!  The school community is amazing in supporting her....which is all I have asked from day one.

Her peers are amazing and want to be a part of life....and a part of helping spread awareness for her disorder.  They want a cure for her too!

I love how she can be a positive part of spreading awareness...just like them.

Seeing her leave the house this morning beaming with pride all dressed to spread the awareness not only for her, but other girls who live with Rett Syndrome too was incredible to see!  Her little sister too was equally proud!  Two girls on a mission....

Instead of quotes, here are some Rett Syndrome Facts for you...

A little girl is born with Rett Syndrome every 90 minutes

Rett Syndrome is a prevalent as Cystic Fibrosis, ALS and Huntington's

Debilitating neurological (movement) disorder that predominantly affect female

Baby girls are born "normal" but began to lose acquired skills between the ages of 1-3 years old

Caused by a single gene mutation that leads to underproduction of an important brain protein

The leading genetic cause of severe impairment in girls-  most cannot speak, walk or use their hands

Despite their physical disabilities, girls with Rett syndrome are believed to be functioning mentally at a much higher level than previously thought
